Look how good the original Prius looked. Where did Toyota go wrong?

Some people thought it looked interesting. So they fixed that right up.

You for real with this shiz? We never had this generation of Prius, and if we did, there'd be a whole lot less of the current ones rolling around now. What is so visually offensive on the current Prius anyway? The swage line might be at too steep an angle, creating the undesirable vertical gap between rear wheel and any features, thus making the rear wheel too tiny and kinda silly looking. But for what is basically a compact MPV, that's... okay... ish.

Pray tell, good sir, any idea where one could get his hands on even a rudimentary CFD analysis thingamabob?

The answer to why can be found here .
As for that Prius, eh, not a fan of the design. I'd rather have a Tercel.

"Hey guys, let's build the prius." -Toyota executive.
That's where.
But in seriousness, the reason the second gen went all 'Prius' is the execs found out that people wanted their hybrid to look different from everyone else's car. People didn't want to look like all the other peasents driving regular earth murderers.

Well actually the real reason is aerodynamics, but you can keep making up reasons all day if it suits you.

Why not both? I get if you choose not to believe this since it is a personal story but here goes. Back when hybrid cars were fairly new to the roads I asked my dad why don't they make any hybrids that just look like other cars. At the time he was a high ranking GM at Honda and said Honda's research actually shows that people who drive hybrids don't want their cars to look the same. They wanted to stand out so people knew it was a hybrid.
EDIT- the car I was asking about was a Honda hybrid, not a prius. In case that matters.
